Freshman highlights:
I joined Alpha Kappa Psi, a co-ed business fraternity. This has been great as it has given me the opportunity to improve things such as my public speaking, leadership, and interviewing, as well as gain an overall sense of things to set me on the career path of my choice.
I joined the investment club at Santa Clara University. A stock pitch that I have is to invest in the Vanguard Index Fund Total Stock Market ETF (Ticker: VTI) as the market is still down from its high, and it would be an excellent time to buy as it is on an upward trend. This stock is slow-growing but has statistically guaranteed returns over the next five years.
I worked hard, did well in my classes, and achieved a 4.00 GPA for my Freshman year. 🎉
As a result of my academic achievements, I was on the Dean's List for the fall, winter and spring quarter.
Summer Professional:
This summer, I worked as a server assistant at Overlake Golf and Country Club in the bar and grill.👨🍳
I also familiarized myself with some of the basics of the Bloomberg Terminal.
I did a plethora of research and found that I have a strong interest in private wealth management.💲
I have spoken to several professionals related to the wealth management industry, and I have asked them questions and received advice as I begin my career.
Last but not least, this summer, I am starting this mailing list with the hopes of sending these emails out for years to come, continuing to update you all about my life and future career.
Summer Fun:
This summer, I went to the East Coast to visit family on my mom’s side; it was great to see them, especially after so long! Here is a picture from Portsmouth.
After visiting family, I went to Martha’s Vineyard. Here is a picture from that trip with my girlfriend, Audrey!
Other than that, my summer was spent with friends and family. I also played plenty of golf, and my handicap is now 8.1.🙂
What’s Next?
This fall at SCU, I will take four courses: Accounting, History, Calculus, and French.
I recognize the value of mentorship, so I’m actively seeking professionals who can guide me, especially those in wealth management.
I will also continue to apply to internships and improve my interviewing skills.
This summer, I also read “The Psychology of Money,” which was recommended to me by Josh Harris, and it is hands down one of the best books I have ever read. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy finance and money in general, I know you will enjoy this book as it is short (240 pages), simple to read, and the author uses excellent analogies to emphasize his points.
If you have any other book recommendations, podcasts, etc., please send them to me!📚👂
Also, If you know anyone in finance, (especially if they are in wealth management who would be willing to chat, please tell me about them, and we can figure out the best way to be introduced.
Warm regards,
Jenson
